Health-Economics

We develop early and post-trial models to forecast and evaluate the economic impact of health technologies, programs, and national policies. Our models are designed to be user-friendly, and to meet the requirements of major evaluation agencies (e.g. NICE in the UK).

Models

Our modeling work includes:

Early Models - to identify the most relevant health and economic drivers and inform R&D and pricing decisions;

Models for Health Technology Assessment and Global Value Dossiers,  and for Policy Planning and Assessment:

  Cost-Effectiveness models;

  Cost-Utility models;

  Benefit-Cost models;

  Value-Based Pricing models;

  Budget-Impact analyses;

  Cost of Illness studies;

  Multiple-Criteria Decision Analysis;

Burden of Disease Studies and Pathway Models - that predict the overall burden of illness and the expected number of patients for each stage of disease;

Patient and Consumer Preference Models - that predict how patients and markets will react to health- and healthcare-related financial incentives, taxation, and pricing decisions;

Model Critique and Validation - which ensure that models are relevant, and credible;

Model Adaptation - implementing the necessary changes to ensure that an existing model is relevant to the setting and sufficiently credible to answer the questions of interest.

Modeling Techniques:

  Decision-Trees;

  Markov Models; Discrete Event Simulations;

  Dynamical Compartmental Models;

  Individual-agent Based Models.

Statistical Methods and Artificial Intelligence:

  Descriptive statistic;

  Hypothesis testing;

  Meta-analysis;

  Sample size calculation;

  Cluster analysis;

  Multivariate regressions (Random Forest, and GLR);

  Classification algorithms (Random Forest, and Neural Networks);

  Time Series Analysis;Causal Inference;

  Watson Services.

Models are used to forecast and evaluate health and economic outcomes of:

Health Technologies:

  Pharmaceuticals;

  Diagnostic devices;

  Surgical procedures and devices;

  Health-related mobile-phone applications.

Health Interventions, Programs, and Policies:

  Subsidies on health-relevant market goods;

  Co-payment charges;

  Vaccination campaigns;

  Behavioral interventions and other interventions.
