Lorenzo Sabatelli
Founder Passionate about solving real-world problems, Dr. Lorenzo Sabatelli founded GLOBMOD Health in 2012 with the purpose of accelerating the transfer of advanced methodologies and best practices from leading health research and policy institutions to industry. He wanted to create a lab that combined the best features of academic research with the agility and can-do attitude of a business organization. An interdisciplinary scientist, expert in modeling and simulation of health and economic outcomes associated with technologies, programs, and policies, Lorenzo received a PhD (2004) in statistical physics from Trinity College, University of Dublin, attended several advanced courses in Epidemiology, Economics, and International Health, in London, Seattle, and Boston, and has collaborated with economists, epidemiologists, clinicians, and decision-makers in academia, business, and government since 2001. While studying for his PhD, he worked for three years as a quantitative modeler in the insurance industry. After his doctorate, he held research positions at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Seattle), and at the University of Washington (Seattle). He briefly served as a senior expert at the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (Stockholm), where he led a team of junior scientific experts, and made critical decisions to ensure the successful completion of a long-standing project to assess the impact of communicable diseases in Europe. On occasions, he has acted as a senior consultant on health-economic modelling and simulation to major international consultancies, and as an external reviewer for and adviser to NGOs working in resource-poor settings. Based in Barcelona, in his spare time he likes exercising and reading by the sea, having coffee with friends, and traveling internationally. He is fluent in English, Spanish, and Italian, and can handle some French and Catalan. PUBLICATIONS (External link) |
